Privacy Policy
Last updated November 7, 2026
Overview
This policy explains what information GameComment collects when you use the website, how we use it and the choices you have. We collect only what we need to run the community. We don’t sell your information or show ads.
What we collect
- Account details: your email address, display name, username, bio and a securely hashed password. If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address and profile picture from Google.
- What you post: reviews, articles, discussions and replies, plus your likes, the reports you send and the people you block.
- Sign-in sessions: a session cookie, and the IP address and browser type of each signed-in session, so you stay signed in and we can spot misuse.
- Game page visits: when you open a game page we record the visit to work out which games are trending. Visits are tied to your account if you’re signed in, otherwise to a random visitor cookie or a one-way hash of your IP address. These records are deleted after 14 days.
- Site statistics: anonymous, combined page view counts through Vercel Web Analytics: which page was viewed, the site that linked to it, and the country, browser and device type. It uses no cookies and can’t identify you.
- Abuse prevention: a record of each write action (such as posting a reply) to enforce posting limits, deleted after a day.
How we use it
To run your account and sign you in, send emails you need (verifying your address, resetting your password), show your content to other people, decide which games appear as trending, review reports, and keep spam and abuse off the site.
What’s public
Your display name, username, profile picture, bio, join date and everything you post are visible to anyone. Your email address, likes history, reports and blocks are not shown to other people.
Cookies
We use only cookies the site needs: one that keeps you signed in and one random visitor ID used to count game page visits once. Page view statistics don’t use cookies. We set no advertising or tracking cookies. If you play a game video, it plays from YouTube in its privacy-enhanced mode, and YouTube may then store its own cookies under its privacy policy.
Services we rely on
We use Vercel to host the site and count page views, Neon to store data, Resend to send email and, if you choose it, Google for sign-in. Game details, cover images and screenshots come from IGDB and load directly from IGDB’s servers. Deals, upcoming games and official game news come from Steam, the list of games given away for free from GamerPower, some official posts from Bluesky, the review scores on the home page from Wikipedia, and the headlines on the home page from the news feeds of gaming publications such as IGN, GameSpot and Eurogamer (our server fetches these; your browser does not contact Wikipedia or the publications’ feeds). Their pictures, and video thumbnails from YouTube, load directly from those services’ servers, and news pictures from the publications’ servers. These providers process data only to provide their service to us. Our servers are in the United States.
How long we keep it
We keep your account until you delete it. When you delete your account, we remove your profile details, email address and sign-in methods and end all your sessions right away. What you wrote stays on the site, shown as written by a deleted user. Visit records are deleted after 14 days; reports are kept as a moderation history.
Your choices and rights
You can view and change your profile, and delete your content or your whole account, at any time from the site. Depending on where you live, you may also have the right to request a copy of your data, ask us to correct or erase it, or object to how we use it. Email zhiyuand39@gmail.com and we’ll respond within 30 days.
Children
GameComment isn’t meant for children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect their information. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we’ll delete it.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit and passwords are stored only as hashes. No service is perfectly secure, so use a strong password you don’t use elsewhere.
Changes
When this policy changes, we’ll update the date at the top of this page. For significant changes, we’ll let signed-in users know on the site.
